Updated COVID Guidance

Dear Central 301 Parents, Guardians and Staff,

As you may recall, on December 30th we issued a communication indicating that the CDC had updated their quarantine and isolation guidance for the general public, which we understood to include the school environment. Unfortunately, we had to revert to the previous guidelines for this week while we awaited updated school guidance from IDPH and the Kane County Health Department. Today we received new guidance from IDPH which has been adopted and is very similar to what we previously communicated. Please find the updated guidance below.

The new Isolation and Quarantine Guidance shortened the isolation and quarantine periods for the general public to 5 days. Please find the link to the IDPH notification here. Effective immediately, Central CUSD301 will be following this guidance.

CDC Recommended Isolation Period for Positive COVID-19 Test

Students who test positive for COVID-19, regardless of vaccination status, should isolate for 5 days after onset of symptoms, or 5 days from specimen collection date if no symptoms are present.

Students who test positive for COVID-19 and have no symptoms or their symptoms are resolving can be released from isolation after 5 days. To calculate the 5-day isolation period, day 0 is the first day of symptoms or specimen collection date if asymptomatic. If they continue to have fever or other symptoms have not improved after 5 days of isolation, they should wait to end isolation until they are fever-free for 24 hours and their other symptoms have improved.

CDC Recommended Quarantine Period for Close Contacts to Someone with COVID-19

GuidelinesQuarantine Requirements

    primary series of recommended vaccine,
    but have not received a
    recommended booster shot when
    eligible.

    Johnson vaccine (completing the primary
series) over 2 months ago and have not
    received a recommended booster shot.

  • Unvaccinated or have not completed a
    primary vaccine series.

Stay home and mask around others for 5 days. After that, continue to wear a mask around others for 5 additional days. To calculate the 5-day quarantine period, day 0 is the day the close contact occurred.*

If a person develops symptoms, they should immediately isolate until a negative test confirms symptoms are not caused by COVID-19.

*If a quarantined individual develops a fever or other symptoms they should immediately isolate until a negative test confirms symptoms are not caused by COVID-19.

We thank you for your patience and continued partnership as we transition to the updated CDC/IDPH guidance for isolation and quarantine.
