CMS to Reopen After Winter Break

We want to thank our students, families and staff for your continued patience and understanding over the past two weeks as we navigated the well challenges at Central Middle School. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of our Facilities team, we anticipate that CMS will reopen after winter break on Tuesday, January 7.

While we initially understood the well failure to be the result of an inoperable pump, it was later determined that the 480v electrical line running from CMS to the well had failed and the pump itself was still functional. A plan was put in place to put in a temporary electrical line that would allow us to resume well service at CMS. That line was put in place yesterday and, as of this morning, the well continues to function properly.

We have been in regular contact with the Kane County Health Department to ensure we are following all protocols required following an inoperable well, including chlorination, flushing and testing of the well water. These tests are expected to be completed over the next few days. Should additional chlorination and testing be needed, that would be done the week of December 30th. Barring any unforeseen complications, we fully anticipate that CMS students and staff will be able to resume school as usual starting January 7.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone involved. We are grateful for the flexibility and commitment our CMS staff provided to students in creating meaningful learning experiences during this unexpected situation. Additionally, we are appreciative of the CHS staff, our technology and facilities teams, food services, and the transportation department for providing incredible support during this time. Our administration worked diligently to partner with other departments to ensure a smooth and positive experience for all parties, and we are grateful for their leadership.  

We know this has been a challenging time for our students, families, and staff, and we greatly appreciate everyone’s flexibility in adapting to the circumstances. As we return to normal operations in the new year, we look forward to welcoming our students and staff back to CMS for a fresh start.
