Laying the Foundation for WIDA ACCESS

This week, students in our Multilingual Learner (ML) program are preparing for the WIDA ACCESS assessment through an engaging construction-themed unit. The WIDA ACCESS test measures students’ growth in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

As part of their preparation, students are strengthening their writing and speaking skills. In writing, they are practicing the use of transition words, stretching sentences, and choosing specific, descriptive vocabulary. For speaking, students are learning how to make a plan before recording, use a variety of sentence starters, and incorporate precise word choice. Through hands-on, thematic learning, students are building both language skills and confidence as they prepare for success on the assessment.
