HBT Artists K – 5

Kindergarten

We did it! Kindergarten students finally finished their first experience with Kiln Fire Clay. The students used stamping and the sgraffito technique to personalize their clay. Once the clay was fired in the kiln, students glazed their clay with up to six color choices. Mrs. Danz added a little picture of the student, (if available) as a finishing touch to make their clay a great first clay keepsake. They even decorated their very own custom made paper plate box, courtesy of the handiwork of the HBT 4th and 5th grade students. Cheers to every student bringing their clay home safe and sound.

Mrs. Danz is so proud of the first graders and their immense growth when creating, engaging and persisting in the art studio. We have tried so many different art techniques and types of media that students have been given more and more choice days to create as they choose. Their creativity is so inspiring. First graders also decorated their very own custom made paper plate box, courtesy of the handiwork of the HBT 4th and 5th grade students.  Cheers to every student bringing their clay home safe and sound in these custom boxes.

2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th

Second through fifth graders have been on an extended paper plate sewing adventure for the past month. All students were given the goals of practicing sewing two types of stitches with yarn and possibly a plastic needle. The whip stitch and the running stitch were the most common and some students even figured out the blanket stitch. All students were required to try and master tying a double knot! This was quite a task, but with the help of student leaders that knew how to tie already, the success rate was awesome in each homeroom. Third, fourth and fifth graders were given an extra challenge of cutting the plate in two pieces so they could attach the plate back together. Some classes were able to have the added instruction of how to create tassels, braids, crochet and more.
