4th Grade ELA Spotlight
Dissecting Text Features Activity
Fourth grade students were diving into their learning as they recently put on their “surgeon” scrubs and got hands-on with dissecting magazines! Armed with scissors, highlighters, and magnifying glasses, they explored different text features like headings, captions, diagrams, and bolded words, analyzing how these features help readers navigate and understand information.
The “surgery” was a huge success—students worked collaboratively, carefully cutting out and identifying these text features, then discussing how they improve comprehension. Not only did they have fun, but they also deepened their understanding of a non-fiction text.
A big thank you to our creative teachers for bringing this exciting activity to life!
