Kilrea joins Schumacher as Central 301 Co-Interim Superintendents following the resignation of Dr. Griff Powell

During its August 18 meeting, the Central 301 Board of Education appointed Dr. Tim Kilrea as Co-Interim Superintendent. Dr. Kilrea will serve alongside Dr. Kyle Schumacher during the district’s ongoing superintendent search.

Dr. Kilrea brings more than three decades of leadership experience in Illinois schools. He retired in 2021 after 12 years as Superintendent of Lyons Township High School, leading a district of 4,200 students and 565 employees. Since then, he has provided interim leadership in several districts, including Yorkville CUSD 115, Oak Park District 97, and most recently as Interim Director of Human Resources in Homewood-Flossmoor District 233. Earlier in his career, Dr. Kilrea served as a principal, assistant superintendent, director of human resources, and teacher. He earned his doctorate in Educational Administration from Illinois State University and was inducted into ISU’s College of Education Hall of Fame in 2021.

This transition follows the resignation of Dr. Griff Powell, who has served as Co-Interim Superintendent since March. Dr. Powell. We are grateful for his service to Central 301 and wish him the best in his future endeavors.
