301 Budget Blueprint: Part 3
💵 301 Budget Blueprint: What’s in the Operations & Maintenance Fund?
In this third edition of 301 Budget Blueprint, we’re taking a closer look at the Operations & Maintenance Fund — often shortened to O&M — which plays a major role in keeping our buildings safe, clean, and functional.
🏗️ What Is the O&M Fund?
The Operations & Maintenance Fund covers everything related to the day-to-day operation and upkeep of school facilities. While it might not be as visible as classroom instruction, it’s critical to our ability to serve students every day.
🧰 What Does It Pay For?
Here’s a breakdown of what the O&M Fund supports:
- Salaries & Benefits: For our custodians, maintenance crews, and grounds staff.
- Building Services: Heating, cooling, electricity, plumbing, water, repairs, and waste removal — anything it takes to keep our spaces functioning.
- Preventative Maintenance: Regular checks and repairs to ensure systems are working efficiently and safely.
Major Facility Projects- Roof replacements
- Paving and resurfacing
- HVAC system upgrades
- Security monitoring
- Classroom additions like those completed at Central High School
- Supplies & Equipment: Cleaning materials, facility tools, grounds equipment, and other operational needs.
💡 How Is It Funded?
The O&M Fund is supported by a combination of:
- Property Taxes (local levy)
- Corporate Personal Property Replacement Tax (CPPRT)
- Facility rentals & parking fees
- Interest income
- State school maintenance grants & Evidence-Based Funding
🧭 Why It Matters
You might not see a new HVAC system or freshly paved lot the same way you see a classroom — but these investments are essential to creating an environment where students and staff can thrive.
As Central 301 continues to grow, the O&M Fund helps us adapt to the increased demands on our facilities.
