What is Parent University?
Parent University is an opportunity for parents/guardians to learn more about the district and how to support their students. We will offer a variety of sessions so parents can choose the ones that interest them, and whether to attend 1, 2, or 3 sessions. For this Parent University, the following sessions will be offered:
Student Anxiety and Its Effect on School
Dr. Eric Nolan, a child and adolescent psychiatrist, will discuss anxiety in children, including coping skills and school refusal. This is a double session that will be offered at 6:15 only.
Social Media Awareness
Rebecca Jurs, principal of Lily Lake Grade School, and Phil Morris from the Kane County Regional Office of Education will share important information parents should know about how to keep their kids safe while using social media. This is a 30-minute session that will be offered at 6:15, 6:50, and 7:25.
My Child Has an IEP – Q&A
Mike Potsic, Director of Student Services, will facilitate a roundtable discussion with parents of students with an IEP. Parents will have the opportunity to learn from other parents about topics of interest to them. This is a 30-minute session that will be offered at 6:15, 6:50, and 7:25.
