Puerto Rican Culture Comes to Life at CMS
Students learn through stories, history, and family connections
Central Middle School Spanish students recently experienced a meaningful cultural learning opportunity through a special guest presentation connected to their Puerto Rico cultural project.
Bryan Alemán, a Dual Biology Teacher at Elgin High School, visited CMS to share insights on Puerto Rican history, traditions, and family values. Students explored cultural identity through storytelling, personal photos, and artifacts that helped connect classroom learning to lived experiences.
The visit carried an added layer of connection for our CMS community. One of Mr. Alemán’s family members is a CMS student, Isabella Rivera, highlighting the power of family involvement and how learning can be strengthened through relationships and shared experiences.
Experiences like this help students build cultural awareness, curiosity, and empathy while making language learning more relevant and engaging. We are grateful to Mr. Alemán and to our CMS Spanish program for creating opportunities that broaden students’ perspectives and celebrate the diverse stories within our school community.
