What is a CHS Incentive?

CHS incentive is a program in which qualifying students are exempt from attending their regular Academic Advisory class. Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors who qualify for incentive will have the following options during their advisory period:
– Stay in the advisory classroom to study. This is a good option for students who wish to have a quiet location to complete their work.
– Students will have access to the commons or the LMC. This will be a more casual setting. They can hang out with their friends, do work, or relax and listen to music on headphones or earbuds. This setting is designed to be similar to what you might find at a university commons.
– Juniors and Seniors who have parking privileges may arrive by their 2nd period class or drive home after their 6th period class depending on if they have 1st or 7th period advisory. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors who don’t drive, but have a ride, may arrive late or leave early as well depending upon their advisory period. Students must have a Parent Consent form on file, and follow Door 10 sign out procedure to leave campus.

How does a student qualify for Incentive?

GPA requirements: Seniors 3.0 GPA, Juniors 3.25 GPA, Sophomores 3.5 GPA, Freshman – Do not qualify until sophomore year. Students also can not receive a quarter 1 F in any class.
– Quarter 1 – Q1 Incentive is based on cumulative GPA only
– Quarter 2 – Q2 Incentive is based on current year Quarter 1 GPA only
– Quarter 3 – Q3 Incentive is based on current year Quarter 2 GPA only
– Quarter 4 – Q4 Incentive is based on current year Quarter 3 GPA only
Discipline requirements:
All qualifying students must not have a major or multiple minor disciplinary referrals / infractions (1/2 day ALE or more)
Attendance requirements:
Students must not exceed any of the following:
– 8 Tardies
– 2 class cuts
– 3 unexcused absences
– 2 late arrivals
– 1 unauthorized leaving of school
*After the first quarter, additional increments of 4 tardies, 2 cuts, 3 unexcused days, 2 U-UTs will remove the next quarter’s opportunity or perhaps the year. Example: Student has incentive first quarter and amasses 8 tardies in the 1st quarter, then the student would lose the opportunity for 2nd quarter Incentive. If during the 2nd quarter the student gains an additional 4 tardies (8 + 4 = 12) then the student would lose the opportunity for 3rd quarter Incentive. Conversely, a student with 8 + 3 would still receive an opportunity for 3rd quarter Incentive. Exclusionary increments after the above threshold is met are as follows: +4 tardies, +2 class cuts, +3 unexcused days, +2 U-UT’s, an additional Unauthorized leaving. *Any behavior taking away incentive will be reflected in the NEXT quarter’s Incentive opportunity. For example, 9 tardies, 3 class cuts, or 3 U-UT’s in the first quarter will remove the opportunity for 2nd quarter Incentive.
