Central 301 – (8/27) Early Release Due to Heat

Central 301 will be shortening the school day on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 due to the excessive heat that has been forecasted and the “Excessive Heat Watch” is forecasted to begin at noon, with heat indices expected to reach up to 115 degrees.

Our goal is to always ensure a safe environment for our students and staff. With the distance of our bus routes across our district, we have drivers and students on the buses for extended periods of time without air conditioning. With tomorrow’s conditions expected to be worse than today’s, we want to be proactive in our approach to ensure the safety of our students and staff.

Tomorrow morning’s pick-up schedule will remain the same. Early release times for each grade band will be as follows:

  • Middle/High Schools: 10:00 AM dismissal
  • Elementary Schools: 11:00 AM dismissal
  • Early Childhood Classes: Classes are CANCELED

Due to the shortened school day, lunches will not be served.

Students who attend schools outside of our District through either the Mid-Valley Cooperative, Northern Illinois Association (NIA) or private therapeutic day programs will follow their normal schedule and be in school the full day since these buses are air conditioned. Central 301 students participating in Mid-Valley programs within Central School District will be dismissed according to the schedule above. If you have any questions, please reach out to Sarah Nolan, Director of Student Support Services, at sarah.nolan@central301.net

Central 301 students participating in programs within District U-46, D300 and Fox Valley Career Center will NOT participate in the regional pathway programs tomorrow. Likewise, U-46 and D300 students participating in Central 301’s programs will NOT attend Central’s veterinary program tomorrow.

All Central 301 staff are expected to work their regularly scheduled hours. Building or departmental administrators will provide additional information.

Please note that temperatures are being monitored for athletics and activities and you should continue to be on the lookout for communication from the coaches of your student-athletes.

We fully anticipate resuming our normal schedule on Wednesday, August 28. We appreciate your understanding of this difficult situation and apologize for any disruption this may cause.
