Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! We are excited to have your students in our schools and are looking forward to a great year!
Our teachers and staff have been busy preparing for your students by writing lesson plans, decorating classrooms, preparing materials, and making sure our buildings are ready for a new year. This morning our fleet of almost 75 buses transported approximately 4100 students from across the 87 square mile district boundaries for the first day of school. I had the pleasure of greeting many of them today and was pleased to see our students so excited and ready to learn.
We have completed a number of projects over the summer to improve district facilities. Prairie View and Lily Lake students, families, and staff probably noticed the new paving at their buildings. Central Middle School’s air-conditioning project is now complete, and across the district, carpet was replaced and schools received a fresh coat of paint. Of course, the biggest change is the Phase One addition to Central High School as well as the newly renovated library, music room, fitness and cardio areas. I heard one CHS student remark that the renovated areas are nicer than some colleges she has visited! We are very excited to see our students utilize these spaces. We have started work on our Phase Two construction project at CHS, which will include a Fieldhouse and 12-classroom addition. This is an exciting time at the high school and for the district as a whole.
Our enrollment is growing on a daily basis and the total number of Central students has grown by over 100 students since school ended in June. Families continue to seek homes in our boundaries in order to send their children to our schools, which is a testament to the quality of our teachers and instruction in the district.
We are pleased that you are a part of the Central family this year. Thank you for entrusting your students to us. It is our pleasure and honor to equip them for a promising future.
