We have made a lot of progress over the course of the summer and are excited for our students, their families, and our community to see our new Phase 1 addition and the changes to our library. We still have some finishing touches to complete before school starts next week, but here’s a sneak peak inside our library.
July 13, 2017
Progress on the Phase 1 Central High School Expansion is going very well. Ceiling tile is being installed this week and painting is about almost complete. Carpet installation is scheduled to begin on July 17, 2017 and will take about two weeks to install. The HVAC equipment is schedule for startup testing the week of July 24, 2017 and weight room and cardio equipment is scheduled for delivery and installation the week of August 1, 2017. The classroom furniture will be deliver and installed the second week of August.
The Phase 2 Central High School Expansion is progressing slightly behind schedule because of weather. The west classroom addition foundation is 50% complete and the masonry contractor has begun building walls. The field house excavation is complete and the north end concrete footings have been installed. The structural steel for the field house will be delivered starting August 14, 2017.
The lower athletic field development project on Ellithorpe Road is about 90% completed on the base using material from the field house excavation. There is a little bit more material to remove and final grading with black dirt is expected to be completed in late August.
The Central High School Library renovation project is going well. Framing, drywall and electric/ technology rough in is complete. The drywall taping is about 50% complete with final painting starting July 17, 2017. New LED lighting fixtures will also be installed, with new carpet and flooring installation scheduled for the end of July. The final renovation steps include a new ceiling and new furniture which will be delivered and installed on August 14, 2017
The Prairie View parking lot has been ground and prepared for paving. The paving timeline is dependent on the weather. The Lily Lake parking lot has also been prepped and is scheduled to be paved after Prairie View during the week of July 17, 2017.
May 31, 2017 – Phase One continues to progress and interior work is moving along nicely. We are on track for completion before the start of the 17-18 school year. Phase Two construction is scheduled to begin in June!
March 27, 2017 – Phase One is under roof and concrete is in place for both the first and second floors. Interior electrical and mechanical work has begun and interior finishing will begin soon. The district awarded bids for fitness equipment for both the new cardio classroom and the new resistance training classroom. The cardio room will be equipped with 24 spin bikes, 4 elliptical trainers, 8 treadmills, and 4 rowing machines. The resistance training room will include an eight-station CrossFit-type rig which will allow for numerous forms of resistance training using bands, battle ropes, slam balls, kettlebells, dumbbells and free weights to name a few. The Phase One addition will also provide five additional classrooms for student instruction. The CHS library is also receiving a complete renovation with the Phase One construction project. Phase One is scheduled to be completed for the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year.
Bids were awarded for the Phase Two classroom and fieldhouse addition at the March 20th Board of Education meeting. Some local companies and many Phase One contractors were awarded bids for the 12 classroom and fieldhouse addition. Site utility work and construction for Phase Two may begin as soon as late April with a complete date of August 2018. Over $14 million of the $22 million referendum has been bid and awarded; future bids will include the cafeteria/kitchen reconfiguration, the band room expansion, and classroom furniture.
March 1, 2017 – Phase One of the high school addition is now under roof. Precast walls were set in place earlier in February and the weather has permitted construction to proceed. Concrete will be poured on the second floor this week and will be followed with concrete on the first floor. The project continues to proceed as planned with interior masonry, ceiling mechanical and electrical work set to begin in March. Drywall, paint, ceiling and flooring work will begin in May. The music/band classroom will also receive updates and an expansion during the summer months.
January 31, 2017 – Phase One of the high school expansion is fully underway. The steel structure is up and being detailed in preparation for precast walls that are anticipated to arrive on Monday, February 6th. Once the precast walls are set, roofing will begin and the structure will be ready for interior work with the first step being interior concrete. The Phase Two exterior work will go out for bid in February and it is anticipated bids will be approved at the March 20th Board of Education meeting.
This is an exciting time for Central High School and all of District 301. We will continue to provide updates as we make progress towards providing our students with a bigger and better learning facility.
